Frequently Asked Questions

You have the questions, we’ve got the answers

What is the Earth Archive? And what is the non-profit Earth Archive Initiative?

Our Earth is changing rapidly and we have a limited time to record our planet, as it exists now, as a gift for future generations. The Earth Archive project seeks to create a digital twin of the planet by creating point cloud data of the Earth’s surface and everything on it. We then wish to make this record as accessible to as many as possible.

It is a massive undertaking that we hope to accomplish over the next decade.
The Earth Archive Initiative is a nonprofit organization formed to support the activities of the Earth Archive. The Initiative is based in the United States but works Internationally.
